Australian Meditation Conference: Keynote Speeches
Brought to you in conjunction
with Meditation
Events
At RMIT Storey Hall, 342 Swanston St, Melbourne (see location map
below)
Keynote Speech by DR. LORIN ROCHE "The
Evolving Field Of Meditation: Ancient Yet Ever New"
One challenge of our times is to update meditation for the 21st century. The skills we have
inherited from Buddhism and Yoga originated in lonely austere practice complemented by periods of
flamboyant creativity, such as the Buddha's - in the middle of the first millennium BC, and
Abhinavagupta's - around 1000 AD. Now tens of millions are meditating, using thousands of
techniques and often failing - doing the wrong dharma for their body type and lifestyle, and
quitting in frustration. We have inherited a wealth of knowledge so vast it may take a century to
learn how to adapt it to the individuals of today. Let's get on with it.
Keynote Speech by CAMILLE
MAURINE "Female Energy Ecology: Meditation Secrets for
Women"
For women to receive the deepest benefits of meditation, they need a practice
that supports the female body/psyche. Most meditation teachings were created long ago, by and for
men in monastries, and have not addressed what is healthy for women. In this talk, Camille
Maurine elucidates the revolutionary, liberating approach put forth in her book,
Meditation Secrets for Women, written with her husband, Dr. Lorin Roche. Based on
four decades of teaching experience with thousands of women, Camille shares essential secrets of
"feminine energy ecology" that every woman needs to know to thrive in meditation , and in life.

Post Conference Workshop: Wild Serenity
Brought to you in conjunction
with Meditation
Events
At NICA, 41 Green St, Prahran (see location
map below)
Full day workshop with Dr. Lorin Roche & Camille
Maurine "Wild Serenity - Instinctive Meditation & Movement
Practices"
Conference keynote presenters, Dr. Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine, will be
conducting a full-day post-conference workshop on Sunday October 9:
Wild Serenity is a liberating, deeply revitalizing immersion in
meditation and energy practices. Nature is both wild and serene, and meditation can be a natural
experience, in which we welcome all of who we are, and then find repose in fluid, flowing
peacefulness.
This workshop is a Meditation Skills Lab, and it is great fun. You get a chance to explore many
different pathways for entering meditation – a range of senses, postures, motions, and emotions.
This enhances your personal practice and, if you are a teacher, may also enrich and refine your
skills in guiding others.
In this approach, you learn to embrace the fullness of your nature – vastness and vulnerability,
sensuality and surging power. What might seem like obstacles – raw emotions, restlessness, desire –
are revealed as gateways into vitality, renewal, and creativity.
We employ all the senses – the usual five, plus balance, joint position, and a dozen more. The
more senses you use to enjoy a breath, the more engaging it is. We travel through the instincts –
homing, playing, bonding, resting, nesting, communing, feeding, bonding – and discover the way they
inform and empower meditation. Throughout the day we will alternate between standing, moving,
sitting, and lying down meditations. Most of the meditations are for three to ten minutes, followed
by writing exercises (making your own notes on what you are experiencing).
The senses, instincts, and postures are the basic building blocks – or the menu ingredients – in
constructing a meditation technique. From Buddhism and Yoga we have received thousands of recipes.
For example, the Buddha said that he gave 84,000 dharmas, for all the different kinds of people
there are. Modern humans are intensely individual, and we will be honouring individual differences;
the way that each of us has our own unique pathways into meditation. You will learn how to develop
a meditation practice from the inside out, allowing our meditation to emerge from our inner wisdom
and lead us to rest there.
We are all beginners at meditation. This laboratory can be illuminating and useful whether you
have been meditating for four minutes or 40 years.
POST-WORKSHOP DINNER For a very limited number
of conference attendees, there is an opportunity to join Lorin & Camille for an evening meal
after the Wild Serenity Workshop. Fixed price at $35 per person (excluding drinks) for a chef's
special feast (with vegetarian feast option) at Mosq, a Moroccan themed restaurant not too far from
the workshop venue (Mosq, 60 Bray st,

Evening Workshops: The Radiance Sutras
Brought to you in conjunction
with Gertrude Street
Yoga Studio & Healing Centre
6:30pm to 9:30pm at Gertrude Street Yoga Studio & Healing Centre,
202 Gertrude St, Fitzroy (see location
details below)
A workshop over TWO big nights
exploring: "The Radiance Sutras - The Vijnana Bhairava
Tantra" with DR. LORIN ROCHE and CAMILLE MAURINE
Come immerse yourself in love-drenched meditation and
movement. We will explore the luminous teachings of The Radiance
Sutras - The Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, an ancient text
that describes 112 awareness practices for touching the
sacred in the midst of daily life. The Radiance Sutras is a musical,
sensuous translation of this tantra by Dr. Lorin Roche, who
has lived and breathed these yogas for forty years. The Radiance Sutras
evoke a world of wonder, awe, and delight.
Anyone can practice these methods. The emphasis is on naturalness, spontaneity, and being at home
in the universe. You meet yourself wherever you are, whether you are restless, lonely, loving,
tired, excited, nostalgic, or quiet.
This is a workshop
and also a playshop. The energy in the room is playful and exploratory, as we all get a chance to
notice what yoga practices are calling us. The Radiance Sutras -
The Vijnana Bhairava Tantra presents112
yogas, and in practice we are often feeling called to one or more, and when we are
"done with" others. You'll get a chance to refresh the Shakti of your practice, if you have one, or
to find a practice, if you are seeking.
The focus is full-body spirituality—accepting every breath, sensual experience, and emotion as a
doorway into deep and intimate contact with the energies of life. The practices include mudra
(energy gestures), pranayama (breath), mantra (sound), and dhyana (meditation).
This workshop is an opportunity to dive into the Sutras that are calling you and receive coaching
from Lorin and Camille to make them your own, so that you can embody, move, and breathe this
luscious reality. All levels of experience are welcome.
Tuesday October 11th - An Introduction not to be missed! (6.30pm-9.30pm)
Wednesday October 12th - Diving deeper (6:30pm to
9:30pm).
Sutra 51 "Wherever, whenever you feel carried away,
Rejoicing in every breath,
There, there is your meditation hall.
Cherish these times of absorption -
Rocking the baby in the silence of the night
Pouring water in a crystal glass
Tending the logs in a crackling fire
Sharing a meal with a circle of friends.
Embrace these pleasures and know,
This is my true body.
Nowhere is more holy than this.
Right here is the sacred pilgrimage.
Live in alertness for such a moment, my Beloved,
As if it were your one meeting with the Creator." Lorin Roche, PH.D. - The
